12 Rabi Al-Awwal 1445 AH
Mawlid an-Nabi 2023 is expected on Wednesday, 27 September 2023 (12 Rabi Al-Awwal 1445 AH). Dates in the Islamic calendar follow the moon, so they move about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. The date shown here is based on the Umm Al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia; in countries that rely on local moon sighting, such as Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, it may fall one day later.
Mawlid an-Nabi (also Milad-un-Nabi or Eid Milad) is observed by many Muslims on 12 Rabi al-Awwal as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is a public holiday in many countries, including Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Some Muslims mark it with gatherings, recitation of the Prophet's biography (Seerah) and poetry in his praise, while others do not observe it as a special day. Scholars also differ on the exact date of the Prophet's birth.
